Actually, Joost Klein’s incident at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2024 may have been much more serious than reported in the official statement from the broadcaster AVROTROS, from the Netherlands, the country which the artist represented
While AVROTROS’s note mentioned a verbal threat with no physical contact, the newspaper Aftonbladet suggests a different scenario. Citing a close source, it states that the alleged victim was a young female photographer from the production team, who received support and is “very devastated” by the incident. Apparently, the woman was cut, and her camera was broken.
Pelle Vamstad, the police spokesperson, told Aftonbladet on Saturday: “We have questioned the suspect, the perpetrator, and the witnesses. We have what we need, and we haven’t carried out any further investigative actions during the day. This will be handed over to the public prosecutor”.
For now, according to RTL, the Dutch delegation returned home today, but Joost Klein stayed in Malmö. The reasons for this are not known. Due to this incident, the artist was excluded from the grand final, thus, the Netherlands were disqualified.
