Picture credits: © Corinne Cumming / EBU The eve of the final of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2024 is being negatively marked by controversy surrounding the participation of the Netherlands. Joost Klein did not participate in this afternoon’s dress rehearsal after attending the flag parade.
The reasons are not officially known, but the case is stirring up social media, with many rumors, speculations, and assumptions. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) only issued an official statement without any details:
– We are currently investigating an incident involving the Dutch artist. He will not rehearse further until new information is available. We have no further comments at this time and will update as appropriate”.
The case takes on more mysterious dimensions when Martin Österdahl, the ESC’s executive supervisor, also did not attend the rehearsal – a usual presence at all dress rehearsals – and the press conference for the Big 5 and the host country this afternoon was canceled.
For now, the only thing that is certain is that Joost Klein did not participate at all in this afternoon’s dress rehearsal. The reasons are unknown, and anything that can be said is pure speculation – theories abound on social media, which we will not discuss here as they are currently mere assumptions.
