BBC announced details on the selection process of the host city of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2023. The event will be held in the country and several locations have already shown interest. It’s expected the choice will be made by Autumn.

This Thursday, BBC released on its website a statement on the selection process. Any local authority interested should start by sending an email to esc.hostcity@bbc.co.uk.

As it’s known, the final decision will be taken jointly by the British broadcaster and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), after a two-stage selection process. In the first one, the list of candidate cities will be shortened.

First of all, any candidate city must meet minimum standards (demonstrating capacity, capability and experience to host an event like ESC).

According to the BBC, the decision will be based on the capability of the region and/or city to meet the necessary requirements and in the resources available and experience: such as having an arena with at least 10.000 seat capacity and space for the press centre, proximity to an international airport and a good hotel room offer.

It’s admitted that the government can be consulted, despite not having the final say.
