This year, for the first time in history, an artist was disqualified from the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) after the event had already begun. It was Joost Klein, following an incident where he allegedly exhibited violent behavior, with the case being investigated by the police.

The decision had unanimous support within the European Broadcasting Union, but the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS considers the disqualification of its representative to be disproportionate. And they are not alone.

Olivera Kovačević, head of delegation for Serbia, shares the same opinion, stating to TV Nova that it was an “extreme” punishment, particularly since it occurred just hours before the grand final, and “too harsh”.

The official suggested that the EBU could use a recording of a previous performance to allow the Netherlands to continue participating, and she assured that the Serbian broadcaster RTS will demand a detailed explanation from the organization.
