There are new details about the production team of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2023. The event will take place on May 9th, 11th and 13th in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

The broadcaster BBC revealed the identities of six members of the team. BBC Studios Entertainment & Music will be in charge of the three live shows. The company is behind events like Glastonbury and Later… with Jools, among others.

Nikki Parsons will be the main director of the grand final. She is the director of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, as well as having directed events and shows like BAFTA Film and TV Awards, MTV Asia Awards and Britain’s Got Talent. She was also part of the BBC’s broadcasting teams covering the funerals of Queen Elizabeth II and Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

As for Richard Valentine, he is a multi-camera director awarded at the BAFTA and the Royal Television Society awards. He was part of the teams responsible for Concert for Ukraine, Ariana Grande at the BBC, The Olympic Torch Concert, among others. In addition, Richard Valentine has worked with artists such as Beyoncé or the Foo Fighters.

Ollie Bartlett completes the group of multi-camera directors. He worked at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral and on content such as Glastonbury, The Big Night of Musicals or The GRM Awards.

Dan Shipton will be the Lead Creative Director, overseeing the creative elements such as the interval acts and the flag parade in the final. He will be working closely with German Nenov, who is the Creative Director appointed by this year’s winner broadcast: UA:PBC, from Ukraine. Dan Shipton has a vast experience as creative director in tours and musical performances, including at ESC.

On the other hand, Kojo Samuel will be the Music Director, being responsible for overseeing the musical production and arrangements for the interval acts and the flag parade. He worked with artists such as Ella Henderson and Rita Ora, as well as being the music executive for this year’s Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony.

Also announced was Julio Himede as Set Designer, having already worked at the MTV European Music Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards. BAFTA winner Robert Edwards will serve as Head of Sound. In 2018 he was the Sound Supervisor at ESC, having also worked with the host broadcaster team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and  the opening and closing ceremonies of the Tokyo and Bejing Olympic Games. The Lighting Designer will be Tim Routledge, winner of multiple BAFTA and Royal Television Society Awards. He worked on Concert for Ukraine, X Factory, 2014 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, as well as in a Spice Girls tour.
