Tonight, Nemo secured Switzerland’s qualification for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2024. They placed in the top ten of the second semi-final with the song The Code, becoming the second non-binary person to qualify for the final after Bambie Thug (Ireland).

In a press conference, they spoke about the feelings associated with this participation: “Just singing the song in front of a live audience and knowing that so many people are listening it… it made me really emotional. It did so much with me, I felt like I could really enjoy in the moment, which was really nice. It’s a very emotional expertience and I’m glad that I can be sharing that with  friends”.

After Bambie Thug, Nemo is the second non-binary person to qualify for the final in ESC history and also in this edition, to which they reacted by stating: “I just want to say a huge, huge, shout-out to Bambie Thug. We were texting this morning, and just knowing that I’m not the only one this year and we’re in this together is so beautiful because I feel like we get to share so much of a common experience eventough we’re so different. But I still feel we have so much in common and we just get each other and it’s so nice to share that experience with another person. I’m really grateful”..

Nemo also spoke about the importance of queer representation: “I think it’s really important that we have so much queer representation this year in general, there are so many queer artists and people out there are watching and they’re inspired. I know how much queer icons meant to me throughout my life and to be able to look up to other people and see that you can do anything as a queer person is amazing and has helped me in my life. So I’m just glad to be a little part of that this year”.
