Eurovison Song Contest Reference Group has two new members

There are new members in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) Reference Group. This body meets four to five times a year on behalf of all participating broadcasters, playing a key role in organizing the event.

Alexandra Wolflast, from German broadcaster NDR, and Claudio Fasulo, from this year’s host broadcaster RAI after being Executive producer, are joining Reference Group.

This body is appointed by European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Television Committee. According to the EBU’s website has four tasks: approving the development and future format of the ESC, securing the financing, modernizing the brand and raising awareness of the ESC; and also overseeing the preparation by the host broadcaster.

The Group has a chairperson, three elected members from among the heads of delegation, two executive producers from previous host countries, the executive producer of the current host broadcaster, one or two invited members based on competence and experience, and also the ESC Executive supervisor, who currently is Martin Österdahl.

  • Elected: Alexandra Wolflast (NDR, Germany)
  • Elected: David Tserunyan- (AMPTV, Armenia)
  • Elected: Mr. Felix Bergsson (RÚV, Iceland)
  • ESC 2018 Executive producer: Carla Bugalho (RTP, Portugal)
  • ESC 2019 Creative director: Yuval Cohen (Israel)
  • ESC 2021 Executive producer: Sietse Bakker (NPO, The Netherlands)
  • ESC 2021 Executive producer TV: Astrid Dutrenit (NPO, The Netherlands)
  • ESC 2022 Executive producer2: Simona Martorelli (RAI, Italy)
  • ESC 2022 Executive producer: Claudio Fasulo (RAI, Italy)

The Reference Group is established by the Television Committee and its tasks are :

  • Approving the development and future format of the ESC
  • Securing the financing of the ESC
  • Modernizing the brand and raising awareness of the ESC
  • Overseeing the yearly preparation by the Host Broadcaster

The Reference Group meets four to five times each year on behalf of all Participating Broadcasters, and is required to take decisions in the general interest of the ESC.

The Reference Group is composed of the following members :

  • The Chairperson
  • Three elected members from among the Heads of Delegations
  • Two Executive Producers from previous host countries, as well as the Executive Producer of the current Host Broadcaster
  • Up to two invited members based on competence and experience
  • The EBU Eurovision Song Contest Executive Supervisor
