Israel managed to qualify for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2024 this Thursday with the song Hurricane by Eden Golan, but even so, the participation is still under strong criticism.

The country is in an armed conflict with Hamas and Palestine, following the attacks it suffered last October. This generates many criticisms from people and movements who believe that Israel is going too far in its response.

There are also strong security measures due to the risk of attacks on the Israeli delegation at the ESC. At the press conference of the qualifiers, a controversial question was asked – “Have you ever though that by being here you bring risk and danger for other participants and public?”.

Eden Golan was given the option by the moderator not to answer, but the artist insisted on replying: “I think we’re all here for one reason and for one reason only. And the EBU [European Broadcasting Union] is taking all safety precautions to make this a safe and a united place for everyone. So I think it’s safe for everyone and we wouldn’t be here for any other reason”.
