Saturday in Malmö is tense. Several delegations from participating countries in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2024 threaten to withdraw. And this Saturday the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) engaged on a crisis meeting following the events of the past hours.
According to the host broadcaster SVT, the organizing body met with the delegation from the Netherlands, whose broadcaster AVROTROS strongly opposed the exclusion from the grand final after its representative Joost Klein became the subject of a police investigation due to improper conduct.
However, the Norwegian newspaper VG, citing sources, writes that four countries threatened to withdraw from the ESC last night. They were Ireland, Portugal, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Discussions continued throughout the night.
After missing the Afternoon Preview, Bambie Thug, Ireland’s representative, revealed that there was an incident that prevented her from participating, requiring “urgent” attention from the EBU – with conversations between the Irish delegation and the organization.
