The representative of Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2024 will be chosen on February 17th. The Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will once again be the selection method, but there are some changes.
Next year, the Danish competition will take place in a new venue, the DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen. The participants will be revealed in the new year, and in the final, the results will be determined by a combination of jury and public votes. The jury is expected to have more members, including foreigners.
On the other hand, the broadcaster DR will consider some new criteria for selecting the contestants, after failing to reach the grand final of the ESC in recent years.
Erik Struve Hansen, manager of DMGP, told Ekstrabladet: “We looked at the show, our approach to artists and music. We looked at what works in Eurovision and what doesn’t”.
According to the professional, the new strategy includes conducting several interviews and meetings not only with experts but also with representatives of fan media. Erik Struve Hansen also talked about what will be sought in a contestant: “It requires a strong song, a strong vocalist, and a very strong performance. This is like the trinity. It’s important that all three of these elements come into play”.
