Bulgaria may leave the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in 2023. Last week, the first rumours about it appeared, but were denied by the Bulgarian public broadcaster BNT.
However, now the Bulgarian website 24 Chase writes that Bulgaria will be out due to lack of funding to participate. Apparently, the decision was made by the management board of the broadcaster, although there is no lack of interest in the event.
The same media outlet reports that BNT’s budget has been reduced by around two million Bulgarian Lev (about one million euros), which forces it to dispense some entertainment events such as the ESC.
So far, there are no official comments on the matter. However, BNT’s official Twitter account informed OGAE Greece that would not participate in the ESC 2023 and likely in future editions too.
