Another significant change in the format of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2024. The live semi-finals will not only feature the performances of the competing countries.
Unlike in previous years, the countries directly qualified for the final – the Big 5 and the host country – will perform in the semi-final in which they vote. They will do so in-between the competing songs in the respective show.
Thus, in the first semifinal, in addition to the contestants, Germany, Sweden, andthe United Kingdom will also perform. In the second semi-final, the representatives of France, Italy, and Spain will also take to the stage.
Until 2023, the pre-qualified countries for the final performed live in the second dress rehearsal (formerly called the Jury Show), and in the live show, only excerpts and short interviews were presented – the full performances were published on YouTube.
