Bambie Thug managed to bring Ireland back to the finals of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2024 with the irreverent song Doomsday Blue. To achieve this, they placed in the top ten of the first semifinal, held last Tuesday in Malmö, Sweden.

In a press conference, they reacted to their qualification, not hiding their emotions, as they reached an ESC final after several years of Ireland’s eliminations, with a small team and as an independent artist:

I am completely dissociated. Right now, I’m having an out-of-body experience! I’m super proud, as our team is very small, and I am an independent artist, and it’s incredible that we reached here. Our country hasn’t been here since 2018. And I’m the first non-binary artist to qualify. So, that’s incredible!
