Ireland achieved its best result in a while in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2024, with Bambie Thug securing sixth place. However, there were tense and delicate moments, particularly due to negative comments and attacks from Israel.

Minutes after securing sixth place in the final, the artist spoke to several media outlets. In a video published by the Irish Examiner, where emotion is evident on their face, they left strong words directed at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU):

– I’m so proud Nemo winning, I’m so proud that all of us are in the top ten, that have been fighting for this shit behind the scenes because it has been so hard. And it’s been so horrible for us. I’m so proud of us and I just want to say we are what Eurovision is. The EBU is not what Eurovision is. Fuck the EBU. I don’t even care anymore. Fuck them”.

In a more moderate tone, Bambie Thug also remarked: “The thing that makes the contestants, the community behind it, the love and the power and the support of all of us, is what is making change. And the world has spoken. The queers are coming, non binaries for the fucking win. I’m so proud”.
