Image: Screen capture NRK During the first semifinal of the Melodi Grand Prix 2024, there was a stage invasion in protest in favor of Palestine. The competition is Norway’s selection for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), where Israel will participate.
An activist climbed onto the stage during a moment with only the presenters, carrying the Palestinian flag and wearing a t-shirt with the slogan “boycott Israel”, in addition to uttering a few words. It all happened shortly before the end of the show, after the performances, and the stage invasion was peaceful and quickly resolved.
The issue at hand is the conflict between Israel and Palestine, which has intensified since October 7 when Hamas launched violent attacks on Israeli targets. Since then, Israeli forces have responded forcefully in the Gaza Strip. Many consider it a disproportionate action, and there have been calls for a boycott of Israel at various levels. The humanitarian situation is becoming increasingly delicate.
