New developments in the situation involving Joost Klein, the representative of the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2024. The singer was prevented from participating in rehearsals this Friday for the grand final due to an incident.
The host broadcaster SVT writes that the police in Malmö (the city where the event is taking place) are on the scene conducting an investigation. The spokesperson for the police, Rickard Lundqvist, clarified: “There is no report prepared at this time. But we are on the scene and carrying out investigative measures to see what happened”.
What is being investigated? At this moment, it is not clear, nor is there an official version. SVT writes that there may have been a “physical confrontation” between Joost Klein and a photographer.
Due to this whole situation, Joost Klein couldn’t perform in the jury show on Friday night, and his performance from the semifinal was shown instead. In the afternoon general rehearsal, he participated in the flag parade, but after an apparent last-minute decision, he didn’t rehearse.
Officially, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS have only confirmed that Joost Klein would not perform in the jury show due to an “investigation into an incident,” besides mentioning ongoing discussions between the two entities.
