Excluded from the contest, Russia officially canceled its selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) 2022, and also launched its own alternative: Our Generation.

Igor Krutov Academy of Music, partner of Russian public broadcasters for JESC, announced the decision, taken following the suspension by European Broadcasting Union (EBU) of Channel One, VGRTK and Radio Dom Ostankino. At that time, the applications were in progress and thus have no effect from now on.

At the same time, Our Generation was launched: this is the Russian version of JESC (and it has several points in common, starting with the visual identity…). The Russian contest will take place in Moscow under the slogan «Music Without Borders». It will be held during the autumn this year, on a date yet to be announced.

The Russian event will be open to young people from 9 to 15 years old, songs with 2m30s to three minutes in light and groups can have up to six children/youngsters on stage (rules «strangely» similar to the JESC regulations…). Our Generations aims to “develop and support talented young singers/songwriters, the popularization of their work, as well the preservation and development of national cultures of the world”.

By regulations, Our Generation is open to artists from any country. Song lyrics must be 60 percent in a native language and 40 percent in one of the international languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Portuguese, Russian or Spanish). Results will be dictated by the combination of 50 percent/50 percent of the votes from the jury and from the public. Applications are open from this Friday (July 1st) until October 2nd.
