Romania continues to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in 2023, but it will opt for a new approach. This is a response to the controversy it has been involved in this year.
The board of directors of the country’s public broadcaster, TVR, has closed the budget for the participation this Wednesday. In the next few days more details regarding the selection process will be concluded, and it will be open to public submissions.
Mihai Predescu, TVR’s Project Manager for the Eurovision 2023, stated that the proposal is for renewing, reinforcing the ESC coverage with greater emphasis on the public, social networks and transparency:
– We are a new team and we propose a different Eurovision contest, based on transparency, professionalism and digitalization. We have changed the voting system: only the public will choose the song that will represent Romania. And another thing: this Eurovision will be on air on TVR and much more present than in the past in the online, on social media networks”.
