Now it’s official: Vidbir, Ukraine’s selection for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2023 it’s scheduled for December 17. It will take place in a bomb shelter in Kyiv.
Suspilne Ukraine has received more than 384 songs by 299 contestants, and by the end of October the longlist of participants will be revealed. The show will be produced by Starlight Production LLC.
Dmytro Shurov, music producer of Vidbir 2023, said in a statement what he would like this edition of the event to be and unveiled a little bit of what to expect:
– I would like this Vidbir to discover new outstanding creative names and make people feel touched and good about this music. I must say, which is quite unexpected for me, this job is based on psychology because you have to raise musicians from sort of a bottom, motivate them. A lot of musicians that you will hear at Vidbir, made a song to be heard at Vidbir probably because of this Vidbir and, again because of it, resumed doing music. I see my function in this and I am very happy about it”.
Ukraine won the ESC 2022, but due to the ongoing war the country will not be able to host the 2023 which will be held in Liverpool (United Kingdom).
