Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper will be the Netherland’s representatives at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2023. Once again, the broadcaster AVROTROS opted for an internal selection, that was made by a selection committee.
The creative team features Duncan Laurence (winner of the ESC 2019) and the songwriter Jordan Garfield. As for the singers, they met two years ago when they were paired up precisely by Duncan Laurence and Jordan Garfield
At the age of 26, Mia Nicolai began her musical studies with violin and piano, but she also has experience in theater, ballet and storytelling, in addition to the music. She is currently in Los Angeles and her debut single, Set Me Free, was released in 2020.
As for Dion Cooper, 28 years old, is a son of a music and quickly gained interest in music. At age 15, he got his first guitar. His debut EP, Too Young too Dumb, was released last year.
In a press statement, Mia and Dion said: “The Eurovision Song Contest is the stage where people can see what you have to bring as an artist. After all these years of hard work on translating our feelings into music, this is a great opportunity to tell our story on such a large scale. It feels fantastic and still a bit unreal that the selection committee of AVROTROS has chosen our song, but we are ready to bring something positive to Europe”.
