Controversy at Vidbir 2023, which last Saturday elected TVORCHI as the Ukrainian representatives at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) next year. KRUTЬ, who came in second, appealed the results.
The broadcaster Suspilne confirmed that the organizing committee considered the appeal, in an extraordinary meeting held last Monday. At stake is the performance of the winners, TVORCHI.
KRUTЬ aims at the musical accompaniment and the publication of the song, Heart of Steel, by the record label Believe. The artist claims that in the chorus a double of the main vocal was heard, which, if confirmed, would be a violation of the rules. However, the producer of Vidbir, Dmytro Shurov, understands that despite the additional processing that is possible to hear, there is no infraction nor is it noticeable to anyone who is not a professional. The organization also admits that several participants committed small infractions, but insufficient to motivate a disqualification.
With regard to the record label Believe, which continues to work in Russia, the fact that is a French company involved in the European and Asian markets exempts TVORCHI from any disrespect to regulations. Therefore, it was decided that KRUTЬ’s appeal is not a reason to change the results and cancel the band’s participation at ESC 2023 representing Ukraine.
