The participation of Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2024 remains in serious doubt. Eden Golan has already been chosen as the country’s representative, but the song may lead the Israeli public broadcaster to withdraw.

According to the website Ynet.co.il, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is considering disqualifying the proposed song. Titled October Rain, it may have political connotations by referring to the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent conflict since then.

According to the same source, KAN made it clear: “We will not replace the song, and we will not change its lyrics”. In other words, if the EBU rejects the proposed song, it would mean Israel’s withdrawal.

And the sources cited by Ynet point to the EBU’s intention to disqualify the song. It’s a standoff, with the Israeli broadcaster firmly not wanting to change anything in the submitted proposal at any cost. Nevertheless, KAN has assured that, for now, it is “in dialogue” with the EBU.
