Gustaph won Eurosong by one point and represents Belgium at Eurovision 2023 with the song ‘Because of You’

Gustaph will represent Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2023 with the song Because of You, after the somehow unexpected victory in Eurosong. The country’s national final took place this Saturday at Paleis 12 in Brussels.

The seven finalists sung their songs and were evaluated by both the public and the jury. The panel was made up of 15 judges, four of whom were present in the studio: Alexander Rybak (winner of ESC 2009 for Norway), Jérémie Makiese (Belgian representative in 2022), Laura Tesoro (Belgiam representative in 2016) and Nikkie de Jager (host of ESC 2021).

Gala Dragot was the most voted by the jury, with 146 points. The public preferred The Starlings giving them 183 points. However, in the sum, Gustaph had the highest score, with 278 points: just one more than The Starlings.

In addition to the competing songs, the participants also performed covers of ESC songs. There were also guest performances by Alexander Rybak and Duncan Laurence.

In the jury’s vote, Gala Dragot was the most voted, with a total of 146 points. The televote preferred The Starlings with 183 points. In the sum, Gustaph was the highest scorer, with 278 points: just one more than The Starlings.

In addition to the respective songs in the competition, the participants also performed covers of ESC songs. In addition, there were guest performances by Alexander Rybak and Duncan Laurence.
