In 1998, Dana International became the first transgender artist to win the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), representing Israel. In 2024, 26 years later, Nemo became the first non-binary person to do so, representing Switzerland.

After last Saturday’s final, Dana International took to social media to talk about Nemo. In an Instagram Story, the Israeli artist praised the entire performance of the young talent, who participated with the song The Code:

– My sister, my brother, my beloved and dear family, Nemo. Greetings. What a pride it was to see you in the grand final! In 1998, Europe showed that it is more liberal and open than people think when it voted for me in Eurovision. Now it happened to you. You are a symbol of freedom and openness liberty, you made a lot of confused children happy and now they feel they are not alone. Thanks. About it, about the captivating performance and the lovely song”.
