Images: RTVE The first finalists of Benidorm Fest 2023 have been qualified. The event that elects Spain’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) started this Tuesday with the first semi-final.
At the start of the show, the host Mónica Naranjo performed a version of Diva: the song that Dana International led to the win at ESC 1998 representing Israel.
The first nine candidates took to the stage at Palau Municipal d’Esports l’Illa de Benidorm. The running order was open by Sharonne and completed by the duo Twin Melody.
After the performances in competition, two special guests took the stage: Leo Rizzi, who performed Arcade (Duncan Laurence’s song taht won ESC 2019 for the Netherlands); and Edurn, Spanish representative at ESC 2015.
The results were then revealed. Agoney, the most voted by the jury and the public, won the semi-final with 161 points, 42 more than Alice Wonder. Fusa Nocta and the band Megara were also qualified. Meler, who won the demoscopic vote, was eliminated after finish only seventh.
