Another Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) spin-off is taking shape. The Eurovision Song Contest Latin America has been officially announced, responding to the demand of that market for the ESC. It follows the American Song Contest (ASC) and the Eurovision Song Contest Canada (this one is scheduled for 2023)
The statement released this Tuesday reveals that the producers are Christer Björkman, Anders Lenhoff, Ola Melzig, Peter Settman and Greg Lipstone, from Voxovation – the team behind ASC. At the moment, the search for a host city among the largest markets in Latin America is underway. The dates were not announced yet.
Views on ESC’s official YouTube channel from countries in that region are a significant part of non-participating territories. Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico totaled almost 400,000 hours viewing.
Martin Österdahl, ESC Executive Supervisor, said in the statement: “Following on from the launch of the American Song Contest, and with plans underway for Eurovision Song Contest Canada next year, the European Broadcasting Union is thrilled to be now working with Voxovation on bringing the excitement and magic of the Eurovision Song Contest to Latin America. The unique Eurovision format finds new fans across the globe every year and we can’t wait to expand the brand in this hugely diverse part of the world”.
