The second of the seven songs competing in UMK 2025, Finland’s selection for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), was released this Thursday.

This time, Nelli Matula’s entry was revealed. She has been professionally involved in the entertainment industry since high school, where she landed one of the leading roles in the musical Mary Poppins at the Helsinki City Theatre.

In 2016, she signed a recording contract with Rähinä Records and graduated from the Helsinki Pop-Jazz Conservatory the same year. From then on, she embarked on a successful music career, performing in the 2018 Emma Gala’s medley of new hits.

Her debut album was released in 2019 and was nominated for Pop Album of the Year at the Emma Gala. In 2021, Nelli Matula signed with Universal Music Finland, which released her second album in 2022.

The song, sung in Finnish, is titled Hitaammin hautaan. The UMK professional jury describes it as follows: “The song is full of catchy melodies right from the intro, and the lyrics, composition and production keep the audience on board from start to finish. […]. The personal background of the song gives it an extra emotional charge. It sounds like a major Finnish radio hit”.
