Sweden is a strong contender to win the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025, which would mark a second victory in three years… and bring the contest back to the country in 2026.

If that win materializes, broadcaster SVT wants a low-cost ESC next year, as stated by programming commissioner Anton Glanzelius to the newspaper Dagens Nyheter: “Maybe it will be a smaller stage and lighting rig, but no matter what we do, there will be major costs”.

The SVT professional assured that everything is ready to begin discussions on organizing ESC 2026 immediately if KAJ win this Saturday in Basel.

In the past 12 years, Sweden has hosted the ESC three times (2013, 2016 and 2024), and on none of those occasions did SVT make a profit, according to Dagens Nyheter… which even reports that losses in 2024 exceeded nine million euros (100 million Swedish kronor).

And Anton Glanzelius warned what must happen if Sweden wins in 2025 and hosts ESC in 2026: “We will have to counter this by cancelling other titles”.
