This year, Söngvakeppnin will feature a different format. The event will once again select Iceland’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC).

The broadcaster RÚV announced that there will be two semi-finals on February 8 and 15, followed by the final on February 22. All the shows will take place at the RVK Studios in Gufunes, hosted by Benedikt Valsson, Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir, and Fannar Sveinsson.

There will be one more finalist song this year: three out of five songs from each semifinal will qualify, so no wildcard will be awarded. This means the final will have six participants… and for the first time since 2013, there will be no super final.

Also debuting is the international jury, which will decide 50% of the result in the grand final. The remaining 50% will be determined by public voting.
