Israel’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025 remains controversial. Now, Slovenia’s public broadcaster is demanding the exclusion of the country.

A resolution from the RTVSLO council proposed a resolution that was accepted, stating that the management should immediately begin a request for Israel’s non-participation in ESC 2025 to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

According to Evrovizija.com, it also determines that the RTVSLO council and the public must be informed about these efforts. Furthermore, it sets mandatory guidelines for the management to finalize the financing, program, and production plan for 2025.

Two other resolutions were also proposed but rejected. One suggested an extreme measure with potential serious consequences, such as a blackout of Israel’s performance if the country is not excluded.

What has been ruled out is Slovenia’s withdrawal from the competition, as the country will participate regardless of what happens with Israel. However, RTVSLO is now required to actively fight for Israel’s exclusion.

Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza and the Middle East, which has lasted for over a year, is widely condemned for being seen as excessive and genocidal against the Palestinian people in response to the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023. This year, there have been multiple calls for the country to be prevented from participating in the ESC – from both participating and non-participating artists, fans, and other entities.
