The shortlist of candidates for Chefsache ESC 2025 has been chosen. This is the new selection format for Germany for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC).

The broadcaster ARD received 3,281 applications from 1,198 musicians, which have now been narrowed down to a shortlist. There will be 24 participants in the live phase of the German competition.

The format includes two heats with 12 songs each, on February 14 and 15. Seven candidates from each heat will advance to the semifinal on February 22, which will determine the nine finalists. The final will take place on March 1.

In the heats and semifinals, the artists will showcase their talents in various singing and performance rounds, and they will be judged by a professional jury led by Stefan Raab. The winner of the grand final will be decided solely by the public.
