Israel’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is once again surrounded by controversy in 2025. The Spanish broadcaster RTVE may consider submitting a request for the country’s exclusion.
According to Público.es, RTVE president José Pablo López responded to MP Francisco Sierra (Sumar) stating that it is essential for the RTVE Board of Directors to take a unified position regarding Israel’s participation.
In the opinion of the executive, it is appropriate to issue a public statement on the matter, which will be discussed at the next meeting of RTVE’s leadership bodies.
No participating broadcaster has formally submitted a request for Israel’s exclusion from ESC 2025, unlike what happened last year. The issue revolves around the country’s disproportionate military response in its offensive against Palestinian territories following the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023.
