Basel approves the organization of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025. The «yes» vote won in a popular referendum regarding the financing of the event.

The vote was about a loan to be taken by the Canton of Basel-City, amounting to 35 million Swiss francs (38 million euros), to finance the ESC support program – which had been approved in September by the Grand Council.

The «yes» gathered 66.57% of the votes (38,186 people), against 33.43% for the «no» (19,171 people). This definitively ensures the normal holding of the ESC 2025 in Basel, with the necessary financing in place. 57.15% of eligible voters participated.

Had the «no» won, the contest itself would not have been affected, but parallel events, such as the Eurovision Village or the EuroClub, would have been scaled back.
