Portugal will participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) 2025… but will not be hosting the event.
The second-place finish last year, achieved by Victoria Nicole behind Georgia, might have given some hope to Portuguese fans. As of mid-March, there is still no confirmation of the host country, and in 2024, France declined to host the JESC despite winning the previous year, passing the baton to Spain, which finished second.
However, in response to a question asked at a press conference by e-FestivalPT, Gonçalo Madaíl, deputy director of RTP 1, clarified that hosting the event is not on the table:
– Is it possible for us to host JESC here? No. Unless… there would have to be a change, even with our counterparts, partners, the winning country, to have a conversation with us and create an approach that would change the context and create the right conditions. Under the conditions we know, not”.
In any case, RTP confirmed to the website ESCPlus.es that it will again participate in JESC in 2025. However, the selection method is still unknown, though for several years it has been The Voice Kids, with great success.
