The participants for the Sanremo Festival 2025 are about to be announced. The winner of the festival earns the right to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), and all winners have accepted this invitation since 2017.
Carlo Conti, the new artistic director, stated in an interview with RAI News that the contestants will be revealed during the TG1 newscast on RAI 1 on December 1st (next Sunday) at 13:30 PM (CET).
There will be an increase in the number of participants compared to initial plans: “We had planned for 24 songs, but we will increase that number”, said the man who will also host the festival.
The format will remain largely the same: the first three nights will feature performances of the competing songs, the fourth night will be dedicated to covers, and the final night will see all the competing songs performed for the third time.
However, this year there is a notable change for the covers night: participating artists will be allowed to perform duets with each other. This gala will not count toward the main competition and will have its own winner. As Carlo Conti explained: “In Sanremo, the competition is about the song, not the singer”.
