Austria will be represented by the countertenor JJ at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025. The song he will perform will be released later, in early March.
At just 23 years old, JJ (Johannes Pietsch) grew up in Dubai, returning to his home country in 2016. In 2021, he was a finalist in Starmania, with a distinctive voice as a countertenor. He performs at the State Opera of Vienna and has participated in several shows.
The ORF selected the Austrian representative through a process that began in the summer of last year with a songwriting camp. The most promising songs were evaluated by a national and international panel of experts, as well as representatives from 30 official fan clubs.
In a press release, JJ said: “It is a great honor for me to represent Austria in Basel. My heart beats for big shows, and there’s nothing bigger than the Eurovision Song Contest. I am very happy for the trust placed in me. In the coming weeks, we will work hard to deliver an unforgettable performance on the stage in May”.
