The Sanremo Festival 2025 will decide Italy’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC)… but it’s possible that it won’t be the winner of the Italian contest.
As in previous years, artists interested in representing Italy at ESC must express their intent in writing beforehand – specifically by Saturday afternoon.
Until 2024, the Sanremo regulations allowed the broadcaster RAI to choose any artist if the winner of the festival rejected Eurovision. However, there are major changes for 2025.
Now, Italy’s representative will always be selected from Sanremo, according to the final rankings. This means that if the winner rejects it, Italy will send the highest-ranked artist who has accepted.
