The participants in Melodi Grand Prix 2025 were announced this Thursday, which, as usual, selects Norway’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC).

There are nine contestants, including Bobbysocks, who exactly 40 years ago gave Norway its first victory with the song La det swinge. Now, the duo composed of Hanne Krogh and Elisabeth Andreassen perform Joyful.

Also, the glam rock band Wig Wam is attempting to return to ESC, where they participated 20 years ago, a moment that served as a launch pad for their career after finishing in ninth place at the event.

The songs will be released in full on January 24, while the Melodi Grand Prix will take place on February 15 at Oslo Spektrum. The semifinals no longer exist, unlike in previous years.

Ten contestants were expected, but according to Norwegian TV2, Lavrans Svendsen reportedly withdrew at the last moment, as well as Angelina Jordan – who lives in Los Angeles, a region recently devastated by violent wildfires. If two withdrawals are confirmed, with the list now having nine contestants, a substitute may have been called up.
