Germany will not participate in this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC). The host country is still unknown following Georgia’s victory in 2024.

The country made its debut in 2020 and remained in the competition the following year before taking a break in 2022. It was a short one, as Germany returned in 2023 for two more editions, achieving its best-ever result by finishing ninth that same year.

Now, Germany is once again stepping away from JESC, as confirmed by the broadcaster KiKA to the website ESCPlus: ā€œIn 2025, KiKA will broadcast and cover a major live show from Junior Eurovision, the biggest children’s song contest in Europe. Germany will not be represented with its own participantā€.

NDR will no longer be responsible for Germany’s Eurovision participation after 2025, with SWR (also part of the ARD consortium) taking over. This change also seems to impact Germany’s presence in JESC.

SWR better take over for Germany at Junior Eurovision. Maybe the EBU should make it a songwriting competition again. At least Croatia, Lithuania, and Norway are considering a comeback.
