Disappointment for Miriana Conte, who will represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025. Her song Kant will need to be altered… to remove the word that gives it its title.

The artist shared this demand from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in a post on social media: “Currently filming the official Kant music video, literally living my best life. We’ve just been notified that EBU has decided against using the Maltese word «Kant» in our entry in the Eurovision Song Contest”.

Miriana Conte expressed her feelings of “shock” and “disappointment” at this news, especially with less than a week remaining to submit the final version of the song. However, she made a promise: “The show will go on – diva not down”.

The issue arises because «Kant» (which means «singing» in Maltese) has a pronunciation very similar to «Cunt», a highly offensive word in English. A broadcaster, which according to TVM News may have been the BBC (United Kingdom), requested the change, and the EBU agreed to this alteration.
