The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is prohibiting participating artists in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025 from displaying flags other than those of their own countries during the event – including «pride flags» related to LGBTQ+ rights.

According to RTL, the Dutch broadcaster has submitted an objection to the EBU. A representative of AVROTROS stated: “We would like to explore whether there is room for change. We hope the EBU is open to discussion”.

The ban on displaying any flag other than the national one extends to both the stage and the green room, marking a radical shift in flag policy. It is also known that some of the participating artists belong to or publicly support LGBTQ+ rights.

Initially, AVROTROS supported the measure, but has now submitted this objection following a meeting with COC, a Dutch LGBTQ+ rights organization.
