The draw for the allocation of the semifinals of the Festival da Canção 2025 took place this Friday. The winner of the competition will represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC).

The 20 authors drew the semifinals in which their songs will be presented. However, four of them made a request to the broadcaster RTP to be placed in specific semifinals.

Thus, Margarida Campelo will be in Semifinal 1 because she already had commitments on the date of the other semifinal when she was selected. The opposite situation applies to A Cantadeira and Luca Argel, who were allocated to Semifinal 2, as well as Henka – in this case, for logistical reasons and due to traveling from abroad.

The draw took place in two phases: first, the remaining artists chosen via open song submission were drawn. Then, the authors directly invited by RTP who did not request any specific allocation were drawn.

The performers and song titles for the Festival da Canção are not yet known. They are expected to be revealed in mid-January, as is customary.

The event will take place entirely at the RTP studios in Lisbon. Each semifinal will have ten songs in competition, and six will qualify for the final, meaning there will be a total of 12 finalists on March 8.
